NASA, stands for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Its mission statement since February 2006 is to “pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research”. NASA started on October 1, 1958 and has developed the Apollo missions to the Moon, Skylab space station and the Space Shuttle. It now is a participant in the International Space Station and is developing Ares I and V programs.
