What is the mission of the Forest Stewardship Council™?
A. The mission of the Forest Stewardship Council is to promote and enhance well-managed forests through credible certification that is environmentally responsible, socially acceptable, and economically viable. A study, titled The Global Impact of SmartWood Certification, published in June 2005 by Deanna Newsom and Daphne Hewitt of the Rainforest Alliance, finds that rapid growth of FSC® and Rainforest Alliance certification has benefited both the environment and people. The study revealed that forest certification is a catalyst for change.
