What is the mission of an MFI?
The mission of MFIs in the developing world is relatively consistent: to provide the poor, most often women in rural areas and urban slums, with financial services, including affordable credit for income generating activities that result in their rising out of poverty. The MFIs also work to become cost-effective and sustainable so that they can scale to serve a large number of poor people.
