You can only keep one per tank, they’re highly territorial towards their own species and anything of similar shape. They get around 6″ long and need a minimum of 30-35 US gallons, preferably over 55 US gallons. It’s tricky to sex them and they don’t breed in captivity anyway. edit: Think of pet shops as dog kennels – all those fish are juveniles and were probably shipped that way, you will also usually see one or two beaten up, hiding in corners/under any decor, swimming at the top or even dead in those holding tanks. You can never base home stocking of a tank on a pet store tank!
