A.The minimum age for most Village positions is 18 years old. State of Illinois labor laws require that employees working in any “dangerous” capacity, e.g., handling electrical or mechanical equipment in Public Works, must be 18 years of age. However, the Recreation Department frequently hires 16 and 17 year olds as Cashiers or Lifeguards for the municipal pool, and will consider applicants as young as 14 or 15 with a work permit. Q.
