What is the minimum age for FALCONRY in California?
You can begin apprenticeship at age 14 in all U.S. states, except for Hawaii and Washington D.C. After you become an apprentice, you must remain under the guidance of a Master or General falconer for at least 2 years; or until you are 18, or until your sponsor (the falconer training you) thinks that you are ready to qualify for General falconry. In California, go to www.calhawkingclub.org; this will help you in meeting falconers all over California. If possible, attend some meets, get to know people, and watch their birds in action. Also, some books to consider reading: Avian Medicine by Jaime Samour Apprentice Study Guide by California Hawking Club North American Falconry and Hunting Hawks by Webster and Beebe A Falconry Manual by Beebe Falconry and Hawking by Philipi Glasier. Best of luck!
