At recent levels of volatility, a minimum of $25,000 is recommended, provided the mini crude oil contract is traded in place of the full-size contract as part of the four-market futures portfolio (excluding gold, which is a new addition). To trade the four-market futures portfolio with the full-size crude oil contract, a minimum of $50,000 is recommended. Its better to start with more capital if possible. Being undercapitalized is one of the most common causes of losing money in futures trading.
