What is The Military Order of the Purple Heart?
A national organization chartered by Congress, the Military Order of the Purple Heart was formed in 1932. The organization was started for the protection and interest of military personnel that received the Purple Heart medal, a medal of honor, as the result of a combat related injury. If a member of the military dies as the result of combat, the medal is given to a family member. The Military Order of the Purple Heart, commonly referred to as the Purple Heart Charity, serves all veterans and their families, not just those that received the Purple Heart.
