What is the Microsoft Outlook Internet Mail Enhancement Patch?

0

Essentially, this is a revised version of the old Internet Mail message service provider, the layer that allows a MAPI application such as Microsoft Exchange, Windows Messaging, or Microsoft Outlook 97 to send mail via SMTP and read mail via POP3. You can read about it on the Microsoft Outlook web site. Unfortunately, the IMEP setup program requires Outlook. Windows Messaging users can use this provider only by first installing Outlook, then installing the IMEP, and finally switching back to Windows Messaging.
