What is the Michigan Neonatal Biobank ?
The Michigan Neonatal Biobank is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is part of Wayne State University’s Biobanking Center of Excellence. It is a secure storage and management facility for the blood spot samples. Until 2008, leftover dried blood spots from newborn screening were stored in a document warehouse. MDCH now has a contractual agreement with MNB to store dried blood spots under better conditions that will make archived and future samples more useful for research. Data associated with the DBS are not stored at the Michigan Neonatal Biobank– only the coded samples as described below.
