What is the metronome mark for the tempo text Elegante?
“Elegante” is not a term that refers to any specific tempo, but rather just a mood one sets by playing it a certain way: elegantly, like you said. Waltz in itself is sort of a tempo marking, as someone who is trained in music should know that it means to feel the piece in one and not in three. A low end tempo for waltzes would be somewhere around dotted-half note = 60 bpm I think, but I’m just sort of feeling that one out in my head; that’s not something official. So, how do you set the tempo? Well, you could still use a music term and attach that to Elegante to get it done. But, if you have a very specific tempo in mind that you don’t want a performer to deviate from, you can always go with the less sexy MM = 90 (Metronome Marking = whatever number you want), and then write Elegante as well. For the waltz, just make sure you’re feeling the music in one and
