What is the median and why does FlightAware not display average fares?
A median value is the number that separates the higher half of a sample from the lower half. For example, in this list: 1 2 2 3 3 4 246 The median value is 3, but the average (mean) value is 37. To avoid extreme highs or lows from dramatically affecting results, FlightAware’s statisticians often choose to display median values for fares to best represent the typical ticket fare.
