MEDIASERV is a Helix Universal server (a RealNetworks product), licensed for unlimited bandwidth, and currently running at version 9. It is configured to stream media files from the major directories in AFS space, such as the courses, depts, projects, and services directories. The server supports real-time streaming of native RealMedia formats (including .rm, .rv., .ra, .rp, .rt, and .smil) as well as Windows Media formats (.wma and .wmv), Quicktime and .mp3. It is available for use by all faculty, staff, and students at UNC Chapel Hill.
