What is the mechanism of cryotherapy ?
In the immediate phase (1), cells are destroyed by : intra- and extra-cellular H2O crystallisation, dehydration with toxic metabolite concentration, and protein and enzyme denaturation. In the delayed phase (2), tissue destruction occurs due to vascular statis and thombosis. In the late phase (3), extirpation of pathological tissue continues by stimutation of the immunological cascade and apoptosis (programmed cell death).
