What is the mechanism and the technology behind the GermFree property?
The GermFree glaze consists of Nano-sized (one millionth of a millimeter) Silver cat ions. In the presence of moisture, silver cat ions are leached into the atmosphere. Fortunately for human beings, the cellular protein present inside the bacteria and microbes, have a high affinity for heavy metal ions such as silver. The silver ions thus leached form a sting molecular bond with these cellular proteins that bacteria use to respire. This bonding of the protien with the silver ions disrupts key cell functions, disabling the bacteria from growing or reproducing, eventually leading to its death.
