What is the meaning of the word volition? And how does it apply to our everyday lives?
The food is there, and hunger is here inside our stomach. We decide to abstain eating, announcing that we are on hunger strike… That is volition. Animals are not capable of going on hunger strike like us. When they do not eat, they are ill or not hungry. Dogs have mating season. We do not adhere to it. We can overdo it, force it on others, or even abstain, quite at will. It is volition. Most of our actions are life positive or life negative, depending on our conscious choice, volition. Animals do not have choice. Their instincts of survival and self preservation dictate their actions. “Man is a being of volitional consciousness” is what they say.
