What is the meaning of NEREIDS?
In Greek mythology the Nereids (pronounced neer-ee-eds) were the nymphs of the Mediterranean Sea. According to the poet Hesiod, there were fifty Nereids and they were daugthers of Nereus (the Sea god) and Doris (one of the many Oceanids – ocean nymphs). The Nereids lived with their Father at the bottom of the Sea and entertained him with song and dance. They had the power to change into any form they chose and were worshiped in sea ports because they gave assistance to stricken sailors.
