What is the Meaning of Namaste?
The Sanskrit word Namaste’ means ‘I bow to you’. The spirit in me greets the spirit in you. The Divine in me recognizes and honors the Divine in you. The divine in me salutes the divine in you. I honor the place in you where the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you of love, light, truth and peace. I honor the place in you where if you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, then we are truly one.
Namaste is a salutation used in many cultures. It is the combination of a gesture (bringing the hands together at the heart) and the phrase Namaste (nah-may-stay). It is said to mean “I bow to you” or “The Light within Me Bows to the Light within You” or “I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells, I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Integrity, of Wisdom and of Peace, When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are One.” It is also a calming, pleasant way to end the yoga class.
