A. Frequencies are expressed in cycles per second (i.e., Hz). The higher the frequency the shorter the distance between one wave and the next, and the greater the amount of energy in the field. In other words, when you have a 900 Hz telephone, it is sending out 900 waves per second. Microwave frequencies have wavelengths of several inches with enough energy to cause heating in conduction material. X-rays have higher frequencies and cause ionization, the breaking of molecular bonds that damage genetic material.
