What is the mayan calendar and how does it link to christmas 2012?
The Maya is the name for an ancient group of people that used to live in central and southern America. They used to be called Aztec’s but that description is not strictly true. They where renowned as an advanced race but may have indulged in ritual Human sacrifice. They had an advanced calender and the passing of the seasons was a major part of their culture. This calender, which was tracked by a series of circles and had a different concept to our own calender and the cycle finishes in 2012. Just because your calender on your wall finishes on 31st december 2009, does not mean that the world will end on that date. The Maya people where effectively wiped out through war and disease by the Spanish Conquistadors, but have left behind artifacts which give glimpses into an astonishing culture and ability.
