Section 112 of the MV Act prohibits any driver to drive a motor vehicle in any public place at a speed exceeding the maximum speed notified by the Central Government and section 183 provides for a fine of rupees 400 for the first offence. The Central Government has notified 50 kmph as the maximum speed for motorcycles and has not laid down any maximum speed for the non-transport LMVs.
