What is the maximum height a fuel tank can be mounted above the engine?
Fuel tanks should be installed such that the supply connection at the bottom of the tank is level with the engine fuel pump. For larger engines, this can be a complication since engine fuel pumps are generally not rated for positive supply pressures. As such, this depends on the type of engine. Clarke series JU engines can tolerate a maximum fuel height of 4.5 feet and the JW engines have a 9.0 feet max. Installation of the tank at elevations above those indicated in the installation and operation manual can void the warranty on the fuel pump.
