What is the maximum allowable bed depth for a single plastic packed bed?
The same mechanical limitations of crushing or deformation exist as for metal packed beds; however, due to the lower yield strengths of plastics, these problems are more pronounced. Operating temperature and chemical environment also significantly affect plastic characteristics. For these reasons, Koch-Glitsch recommends plastic packed bed depths of 10-15 feet.
