What is the maximum allowable bed depth for a single metal packed bed?
There is no conclusive evidence that packed beds may not be infinite in depth, from a process standpoint. There are, however, mechanical limitations due to crushing or ring deformation with deep beds. Koch-Glitsch has provided 2″ metal Ballast rings for 30 foot deep beds, but generally recommends 20-25 feet as a maximum.
