What is the Matrix process?
The Matrix process treats all clinical waste except that waste which, by law, must be incinerated. The Matrix process is; The Matrix process first shreds the waste and then disinfects it via an alkaline oxidation process. The resulting increase in pH and temperatures in the mixing unit disinfects the shredded waste. The sterilised waste is placed in commercial bins and transported to landfill. The waste is reduced to about 80% of its original volume and offers an alternative to 100% incineration. * Intelligent. * Effective for the inactivation of pathogenic micro-organisms. * Environmentally consumes less energy therefore more cost effective. * Produces a product that can be safely disposed of in a putrescible landfill. * Produces no air borne emission or liquid discharge to sewer. Clinical waste for Matrix (high alkaline) treatment continues to be identified in all yellow colour specified bins (approx. vol = 90%) and the remaining waste requiring incineration (approx. vol = 10%) is cl
