What is the math formula used to tell pitch speed using a stopwatch?
Well its a tough formula, as a pitch goes approximately 60 feet (a little less due to a stride, but 60 works easy here) and is timed in seconds. You then need to make it miles per hour. SO really its just a conversion formula. Take 60 feet and divide it by the time it takes to get from release to glove. That is quantity p. so p = 60ft/x seconds, where x is the time from release to glove. From there you want to convert it to mph, so you need to multiply it by 3600 seconds in a hour/5280 feet in a mile. So P x (3600/5280) = speed in MPH. A faster way would be to take p and multiply by .681. Which is the conversaion formula simplified. So (60/X) * .681 (where X is time) should give you a rough estimate of your speed. I’d say give or take 1 or 2 MPH because I simplified a few things, and your stride would have you standing closer than 60 feet. Hope this helps. If this is confusing let me know, I’ll try to simplify it more.
