What is the Masqueraded Network Zone (NAT)?

0

The masqueraded network zone (NAT) is a wired network within our research network zone but sitting behind a firewall. It is intended for use by machines that are either only temporarily on the network or are for some other reason not trusted within our regular network. Machines on the masqueraded network zone have all their external packets routed through nipisi which acts as a DHCP server, network address translator (NAT) and firewall for the masqueraded network zone. Type of connection to the zone • wired – you must be plugged into a network port that is part of the masqueraded network zone. Kind of IP addresses • non-public IP addresses (ip addresses cannot be used to easily get to you unless you initiate the connection) Getting a machine access to the internet • To get access from the masqueraded network zone to an external network you must register your MAC address with TST. You can do that by plugging your machine into an ethernet port marked NAT and trying to access the internet
