What is the Martindale-Hubbell AV Rating?
Martindale-Hubbell independently rates attorneys by seeking peer review of all practicing attorneys. Peer review includes seeking confidential rating opinions from judges, and opposing attorneys, and canvassing the entire legal community for opinions regarding an attorney s legal ability and adherence to ethical standards. Most attorneys never achieve a rating. There are three possible ratings for those who do: CV, BV, or AV. Only a small percentage of attorneys achieve the AV rating. These attorneys have demonstrated to their colleagues that they possess the highest quality in legal ability and adhere to the highest legal ethics. The AV rating is the gold standard in measuring an attorney s reputation and ability.
