What is the market looking for?
What are the capabilities that are in short supply, and can I skill myself up to be good at them? For example in the early 1990s, Desk Top Publishing was a novelty and could be sold as a useful capability; it needed specialist software and quality printers. By the late 1990s it had become more difficult to market because of the easy-to-use packages that can be bought at a low price for off the shelf PCs and low cost printers. At the turn of the millennium a detailed knowledge and practical experience of Web-related activities and practices should be in increasing demand, along with the ability to implement, maintain and fix internal PC networks and connections to the Internet. As a general rule if something is easy to learn and do then it is difficult to sell at a profit. You need to make sure you develop a skill thats in demand and cannot be learned overnight – be prepared to invest time and effort to do this!
