What is the Marin Women’s Study doing to address environmental concerns?
A. Our research goals with the MWS are to discover how much the traditional risk factors are contributing to rates of disease and if other factors, such as environmental exposures, help explain the rates of disease as well. We will investigate markers in blood and saliva that are associated with breast cancer risk. The blood and saliva analysis will allow us to look for environmental factors in the development of breast cancer. Most importantly, the MWS will create a data bank for future research on environmental exposures.
