What is the management/governance structure of Canadian Blood Services?
The management structure for Canadian Blood Services balances the need for ministerial responsibility and accountability for the spending of public monies and for setting health policy objectives, with the requirement that Canadian Blood Services have the necessary autonomy to ensure a safe, secure, cost effective, affordable and accessible blood supply service. Canadian Blood Services was incorporated on February 9, 1998 pursuant to Part II of the Canada Corporations Act. Provincial and Territorial Health Ministers play a role similar to shareholders.
