All of the lessons learned collectively within the nuclear industry will be applied to the new designs. For example, the new so called generation 3+ designs will be designed for passive cooling in the event of a loss of coolant. That is, emergency cooling will be powered by gravitational feed to flood the reactor core rather than by back up electric generators. Additionally, the pressure vessels will be located underground to provide yet further deterrence to terrorist attacks.
