What is the maintenance interval for ECAR?
Electrodes are electrochemically cleaned of rust everyday due to a design feature of the ECAR system. Ongoing maintenance includes 1) removal of iron-arsenic sludge produced during treatment (every few days) and 2) replacement of the electrodes (estimated once per year). Other maintenance tasks may include cleaning impellers and oiling small motors used to agitate the solution during treatment. Long-term field tests (planned for 2009 and 2010) will further elucidate maintenance requirements.
