What is the main reason for cheating?
There are many different reasons for cheating. According to a group of researchers at a British University one reason men cheat is due to having a low IQ. Apparently, per the study, "intelligent men are more likely to value monogamy and sexual exclusivity." One of the main reasons many suggest that women cheat is due to self-esteem or even revenge. Then, for both sexes, it is often related to the level of happiness in the relationship. Those that are unhappy in their relationship are at risk of cheating as they will try to find happiness elsewhere (both sexually and/or emotionally).
Dr. Gilda: There are many reasons why people cheat. Sometimes it’s what you’ve seen in the house you grew up in. Sometimes all your buddies are doing the same thing. Sometimes it’s because you don’t feel good about yourself and you look for people who will make you feel better. Sometimes your relationship is crashing and you don’t want to deal with that reality, so you’re going to use cheating as a bandage. And sometimes people are so self-centered and egocentric that all you can think of is me, me, me. So there are many different reasons why people cheat.
