What is the main conflict in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley?
The main conflict is between humanity and nature and how our changing relationship today will effect the lives of those in the future. . In the first chapter of BNW nature is portrays as a beam of light, “hungrily seeking some draped lay figure”, but instead finding only, “the glass and nickel and bleakly shining porcelain of a laboratory.” Nature exists in this world, but it is used only for human advancement, with people being conditioned to hate nature “a love of nature keeps no factories busy”. The author uses a sterilised vocabulary with words like “”bleakly, corpse, coloured dead and frozen,” presenting a world devoid of the spark of natural life. Humans are disconnected from the natural world as human life is seen to be considerably superior to other parts of nature.
