What is the magnitude of the faintest star you can see from a city with the naked eye?

That depends on how deeply into the city you are located. My experience with urban naked eye observing is that the star has to be at least 4th magnitude to be seen. I can usually see the stars in the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia and Orion with not much difficulty, and these are brighter than +3.3 or so.
