What is the london blitz?

The word Blitzen – lightning is where it came from originally, the Germans used a method of warfare called ‘Blitzkrieg’ or ‘Lightning War’. The term The Blitz comes from that. However, it was not to do with ‘Lightning War’ in the sense that it was in France and the Low Countries. The London Blitz refers to the sustained aerial bombardment from September 1940. The Nazis turned the focus of their air campaign in the Battle of Britain towards cities and towns instead of airfields, in order to terror-bomb the civilians into submission and get the British government to sue for peace. The Blitz refers to the particular campaign against London in this respect.
