What is the LLB/LP degree?
This stands for Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice. Until recently, law students in this State would graduate with an LLB alone. This did not permit them to actually work as a lawyer. In order to do that, a further course of study called “practical legal training” had to be undertaken elsewhere. In 1999, Flinders pioneered the integration of formal practical legal training into its primary degree structure. We call this integrated degree the LLB/LP and it allows graduates to work in the real world, right away. Like all law degrees, the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice contains a high proportion of compulsory topics that are needed to enter legal practice. As you progress through the degree, the choice of electives increases. Flinders integrates legal skills components that form the foundation of your professional training program within some of the compulsory topics. These include: • Interviewing • Oral advocacy • Negotiating • Drafting documents As you get to the end of the degree
