What is the lifecycle of PET?
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) has been around for more than 40 years, but only as a relatively thin, high priced film where the ultimate in physical and electrical properties were required. This situation changed with the introduction of the PET bottle and the market began to recognise that PET had some very attractive properties. As with many recyclable packaging materials, it requires considerably less energy to recycle PET than to replace it with new material. This combined with the relative ease of collecting and handling large volumes of post consumer bottles, explains the fact that PET has the highest recycling rate of all plastic materials.
