WHAT IS THE LIFE-HISTORY OF A CULT?
Cults come and cults go. They have varied histories. Some cults splitoff or metamorphose into others. Some change their names, especiallywhen there is a death of the leader or a schism of leadership, or ifthey are getting too much bad publicity under their better-knownname. Cults that operated in the 1940s may not exist any longer, buttheir members may have set up other cults. The world of cults is astrange ‘underground’ realm much like organized crime, which isdifficult to document except through persons who escape and disclosetheir experiences. Some cults self-destruct, like the People’s Temple of Jim Jones inGuyana back in the 1970’s. Others have met fiery ends such as theBranch Davidians in Waco in 1993 or ‘Move’ in Philadelphia many yearsearlier. Some continue for generations.
