What is the Licence Appeal Tribunal (“LAT”) for?

0

The Licence Appeal Tribunal (the “Tribunal”) is an independent quasi-judicial administrative tribunal created on April 1, 2000, under the Licence Tribunal Act, 1999, to assume the mandates of four predecessors: the Commercial Registration Appeal Tribunal, the License Suspension Appeal Board, the Private Vocational Schools Review Board, and the Child and Family Services Review Board’s licensing jurisdiction. Members are appointed by Order-in-Council signed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The Tribunal is designed to give you a simple, timely and inexpensive way to settle disputes concerning compensation claims and licensing activities regulated by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Ministry of Government Services, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and the Ministry of Transportation. As a quasi-judicial tribunal, LAT is subject to the rules of natural justice and the requirements of the Statutory Powers
