What is the length of detour being imposed?
A1: Using State routes only, including portions of Route 9P, Route 9, and the Northway, the distance from one side of the bridge to the other is about 16 miles but the actual additional distance traveled due to closure of the bridge will vary greatly depending on where a person is coming from and what their destination is. For example, the distance from the junction of Cedar Bluffs Road (County Route 71) to Exit 14 of the Northway along Route 9P is about 3.5 miles via the bridge. A detour avoiding the bridge and using State routes only would add about 9 miles to that trip. The distance from the junction of Route 423E to Exit 14 of the Northway along Route 9P is about 6 miles via the bridge and about 4 miles longer avoiding the bridge. The distance from the intersection of Lake Road to Exit 14 using the bridge is about 7.5 miles and only about 1 mile longer not using the bridge. From points nearer the southwest side of the lake closure of the bridge will not increase travel distances. B
