What is the legend of the flying Dutchman?
Coming from Cape Town I know the first story that Elizabeth relates as being the story of the Flying Dutchman and actually in my version its the name of the ship he is sailing. I like the second story as much. in Cape Town we have another about a Dutch man named Van Hinks that sits at the one end of Table Mountain with the devil at the other and they tell stories while puffing on their pipes and the smoke from the pipes causes a huge cloud of white smoke. This is the cloud that forms on the top of the mountain so when the clouds roll in Captonians say that Van Hinks and the devil are talking again! Seems the Dutch liked to tell stories.
