What is the legal description?
An abbreviated legal description can be found on your assessment notice and real estate tax bill. This legal description cannot be used to convey property. The actual legal description is on the document recorded at the Register of Deeds Office. Only the recorded legal description can be used to transfer lands. A parcel number or an address does not constitute what lands an individual owns.

This is your Lot and Subdivision, or the Section, Township and Range that describes your property (example: Lot 4 Block 7 of Globe Town site, Map 63, GCR or the Northeast quarter of Section 7, Township 1 North, Range 15 East). The address and/or parcel number does not serve as a legal description; if you are not sure of the correct legal description the Assessor’s office will give you the docket and page or fee number of your vesting deed; the Recorder’s office will pull a copy of that document for you.
