GODFREY – An alert student worker is earning extra credit after leading authorities to the local college library where they busted an alleged identity theft case in progress. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off for the suspect who was apparently using a computer to use a stolen Social Security number to play on two Internet poker sites, said Capt. Brad Wells, of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities filed felony identity theft charges Thursday against a 24-year-old Matthew R. Cornelius, of the 2700 block of Harvey Place of Granite City.
