What is the latest on the I75 HOV Expansion Program?
As of 11/9/09 – Per John Hancock (404-631-1711) from the GA Department of Transportation (DOT) the following status regarding the proposed HOV expansion project on I75, was obtained: * The scope of the proposed project is to add 2 HOV lanes on the West side of I75 between the 285 interchange to the I75 / I575 split. Then add 1 HOV in the middle median between the I75 / I575 split and Hickory Grove Road. * An interstate exit and entrance ramp will be added to Hickory Grove Road. Hickory Road is located between the SR92 Exit and Wade Green Exit. * No new construction is planned around Exit 277 on I75. * These new HOV lanes will be awarded via a Public/Private Partnership (therefore it will be toll roads). * The project is expected to start Summer of 2011 and will take 3 1/2 years to complete the project. * An environmental Impact study still has to be finalized and approved by the Federal Highway Administration. * GA will conduct a Public Hearing on this topic in February 2010.
