What is the latest information on water conservation in Sydney?

Mr FRANK SARTOR: I thank the honourable member for Londonderry for his interest in water conservation. Water conservation is an important issue and is one that involves cultural change in the community. There is no better way to achieve that cultural change than to work through our schools. The Government already has two innovative programs. Streamwatch has been going for some 13 years, and the Every Drop Counts in Schools Program, which involves many schools, has also been extremely successful. Honourable members should remember that schools in the Sydney region use 16 million litres of water every day. Today I announced that we will take these programs further. After consultation with the Minister for Education and Training I have announced a new program to encourage more than 1,600 schools across Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains to purchase and install rainwater tanks. Rainwater tanks are synonymous with water conservation. Installing rainwater tanks is a good investment
