What is the latest information on TAB betting on the Dubai Cup meeting?
Mr FACE: I previously reported to the House on allegations related to the acceptance by TAB Ltd of bets on a race in Dubai after the time that the TAB had reported it would close on that event. The race had particular interest for Australian punters as the champion New Zealand mare Sunline was in the field. The race in question, race six, was scheduled to commence 3.30 a.m. daylight saving time on Sunday, 25 March. The TAB had reported in the media that betting would close at 1.27 a.m., which was essentially the starting time of the last Australian event on which the TAB was conducting betting that night. In fact, betting on the Dubai race continued until 2.11 a.m. The Department of Gaming and Racing conducted an investigation into the incident and concluded that TAB Ltd had committed a breach of the Totalizator Act, the totalisator rules and a condition of its licence to conduct an off-course totalisator. On 9 May 2001 I issued a notice to TAB Ltd to show cause why disciplinary action
