What is the last kind deed you did for a stranger that had no reward attached to it?

Hopefully this wasn’t the last kind deed I did for a stranger, but the response had a significant effect on me. I was stationed in Germany, working late every night… A young private had done something wrong and was working nights buffing floors as punishment. I noticed that his wife sat in their car while he worked every night. Finally, one night, I went to the Staff Duty Sergeant and requested he be let off early from his “extra duty.” I then took the soldier and his wife out to eat at a German Restaurant (I was sure they couldn’t afford it). Didn’t know his name, and as far as I knew, he didn’t know me. Six months later, I got a letter from him – he was out of the Army; he appreciated what I did for him; and if I was ever in Southern California, please come see him… Still have his letter…
