What is the KS3 Strategy doing to help those pupils who need to keep up with their peers as they enter secondary school?
There is new funding for all secondary schools via the 2002 03 Standards Fund of £10,500; notionally £1000 transition, £6500 summer school, and £3000 Year 7 catch up. Schools can use this funding to develop a flexible programme to help pupils bridge the transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 curriculum in the core subjects, and to support those pupils who need to catch-up in English and mathematics in the first year of secondary education. This is not the same for middle and special schools, which receive the £3000 catch-up funding only. The booklet Managing the second year in your briefing packs provides further guidance.
